A holiday in the Lake District: relaxation in a peaceful cottage, surrounded by beautiful landscapes; locally produced food and drink; enjoying your favourite activities from everything the Lake District has to offer, or maybe trying something new.

There are, of course, innumerable walks of every length and degree of difficulty in outstanding scenery. You can make up your own, maybe taking inspiration from the famous Wainwright Guides to the Lakeland Fells, or join a range of guided walks. The new Ullswater Way is a wonderful way of familiarising yourself with the local area… and best of all you can join it from the front door of your cottage.

And there is a lot more besides walking: a trip on the Ullswater Steamers, kayaking or sailing on the lake, rock climbing, a visit to the woods and waterfalls at Aira Force, which always make us think of Tolkein, the Via Ferrata at Honister, cycling through peaceful lanes or up some of the strenuous passes featured on the Tour of Britain on your own bike or a rental bike delivered direct to your accommodation, or just going for an early morning run when you may see local wildlife including red squirrels, deer or pheasant. When you are hungry – or just want to pause for a pint – there are many pubs and restaurants within easy reach, including the Brackenrigg Inn which has its own microbrewery, 10 minutes walk down the hill, or The Quiet Bar at The Quiet Site just under a mile away.
