Getting Here

By Car from the M6 (Penrith)

From Penrith (junction 40 of the M6), follow the A66 west for a little over half a mile to a large roundabout. Take the second exit signposted Ullswater and A592. Follow the A592 for about 3.5 miles to a T junction with the lake in front of you. Turn right and continue to follow the A592, with the lake on your left. After a little more than half a mile you will pass a sign on the left announcing Watermillock. About half a mile after that you will come to an inn on the right called the Brackenrigg. Immediately after the Brackenrigg Inn take the turning on the right. Follow the road up the hill. We are the first driveway on the left after about half a mile. The gate says “Beck House” and “Julie’s Cottage”.

By Car from Ambleside/Windermere

Take Kirkstone Road (signposted “Kirkstone 3”) from the mini roundabout at the northern end of Ambleside. Follow this steep and narrow road up the hill to the T-junction opposite the Kirkstone Pass Inn. Turn left and continue down Kirkstone Pass towards Ullswater. Follow the lake shore road, passing through Patterdale and Glenridding, towards Pooley Bridge. About 7 miles after Glenridding, you will pass a sign on the left announcing Watermillock. About half a mile after this, near the brow of a hill, turn left towards Bennethead immediately before the Brackenrigg Inn. Follow the road up the hill. We are the first driveway on the left after about half a mile. The gate says “Beck House” and “Julie’s Cottage”.

By Train

The nearest station is Penrith (7 miles). The journey takes about 15 minutes, but allow 30 in case of delays (e.g. tractors or animals).

A taxi from the station to Bennethead is about £20. It is advisable to prebook. There are a number of taxi services in and around Penrith. A1 Acclaim Taxis is a service we often use so their drivers know where we are, and they can usually arrange an alternative if they are too busy.
