£550 – £790 for 7 nights
Beck House Barn is a traditional Lakeland stone barn situated next door to Julie’s Cottage in the hamlet of Bennethead. It has been sensitively converted into bright and spacious accommodation, perfect for a couple, retaining a number of original features such as the oak beam across the double height living room, and the stone-arched main entrance, now fully glazed. In addition, it benefits from a large full height window overlooking the garden, new oak flooring throughout the living room, and farmhouse-style latched oak doors internally throughout. The bedroom, with its super king size bed, and the ensuite shower room occupy what used to be the hayloft.
Living accommodation comprises a bright, open plan living area with wood-burning stove, comfortable leather sofa, a dining area with table and chairs, and an oak staircase leading to a galleried landing and the en suite bedroom.
The kitchen is roomy and well-equipped. It includes granite worktops, Belfast sink, modern appliances and a range of floor and wall units.
The conversion included insulation to modern standards, making the barn warm and cosy even in the depths of winter. Heating is provided by oil-fired central heating, controlled both by a thermostat in the living room, and by individual thermostatic valves on each radiator. In addition, there is a very effective wood-burning stove in the living room which can often be enough by itself.
Mobile reception is erratic and varies around the property. However, there is good fibre broadband and free wi-fi so wi-fi calling apps and messaging may be used readily.
Beck House Barn sleeps 2 people in a double bedroom with a super king size bed. For a couple with a small child, a cot can also be provided.
The entrance to the property is through the utility room which is also a perfect place for coats and muddy boots. It contains a washing machine, dryer and storage, and leads into the kitchen. Off the utility room is a toilet with basin and storage.
Spacious, well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops, Belfast sink, oven, hob, dishwasher and separate fridge and freezer. The floor units include mechanisms for easy access to the corner spaces.
Bright, open plan living room, double-height with exposed beam and feature staircase with galleried landing. Floor to ceiling window overlooking the garden and countryside beyond. Main door in glazed entrance leads to parking area. Side door to patio and garden. Wood burning stove. Sonos speaker. Selection of books, games, maps and guidebooks.
The bedroom has a super king size bed, bedside tables, dressing table and hanging rail. Off the bedroom is the bathroom with shower, basin and toilet. Guest bars of soap and liquid soap dispensers are provided at the beginning of each stay.
